What to look for
Who builds the workout plan, and from what?
A good plan starts from your level, the days you can train, the kit you have and any injuries, and moves you on as you progress. Check what the app asks you at the start and how the plan changes over the weeks.
Do your food targets follow your training?
A hard training day, a rest day and a match day need different amounts of food. Look at how each app sets the day's calories, protein, carbs and fat: from the day's plan, by weekday, or as one figure for every day.
How do you see your progress?
Your weight, strength, sleep and photos tell you whether the plan is working. Look for the measures you care about, in one place.
Does it plan around your sport?
If you play a sport, your gym days, your food and your recovery all need to fit around matches, practices and the season. Check whether the app asks about your sport and what it changes when you add one.
